Sasnovich up to 53rd in WTA rankings

MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) – Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus climbed up to the 53^rd place in the WTA rankings thanks to her performance at the Brisbane International women’s tournament, BelTA has learned.

Last week, prior to the tournament in Brisbane, the Belarusian was ranked 88^th. She took seven victories to reach the final where she lost to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina.

Arina Sobolenko of Belarus also improved her WTA position, going up from 73^rd to 69^th spot. Arina Sobolenko is currently playing at the Hobart International Tennis, where she came through Eugenie Bouchard of Canada (world number 83) 6-4, 6-3 in last 32.

The top ten players, according to the current WTA rankings, are as follows:

1. Simona Halep (Romania) – 6,425 points

2. Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) – 6,095

3. Garbine Muguruza (Spain) – 6,005

4. Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) – 5,785

5. Venus Williams (USA) – 5,567

6. Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) – 5,445

7. Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) – 4,901

8. Caroline Garcia (France) – 4,385

9. Johanna Konta (UK) – 3,600

10. Coco Vandeweghe (USA) – 3,258.
