Sabalenka makes Brisbane semifinals

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka powered into the Brisbane International semifinals with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Russia’s world number 18 Daria Kasatkina in 1 hour and 26 minutes.

For a spot in the final Aryna Sabalenka will face Belarus’ world number 23 Victoria Azarenka, who saw off world number 12 Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, in the quarterfinal.

Aryna Sabalenka won the tournament last year. Victoria Azarenka celebrated the victory at the Brisbane International in 2009 and 2016.

In the second semifinal of the ongoing event Kazakhstan’s world number 4 Elena Rybakina will take on world number 40 Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic.

The final is scheduled for 7 January.
