MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) - Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka, No.12 on the WTA ranking, has beaten No.2 seed Romanian Simona Halep (World No.4) 6-4, 6-2 to reach the Adelaide International semifinals, BelTA has learned.
The game lasted 1 hour 11 minutes. This major upset over Simona Halep helped the Belarusian to book the clash with Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (No.24) in the semifinals.
In the first round, Aryna Sabalenka outplayed Hsieh Su-wei from Chinese Taipei (No. 36) 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 and after that she defeated Bernarda Pera of the United States, World No. 70, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
The Adelaide International will be over on 18 January.
