Sabalenka 3rd in WTA ahead of Tokyo Olympics

MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) - Before the start of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Belarus' number one Aryna Sabalenka goes 3rd in the WTA rankings, BelTA has learned.

Aryna Sabalenka did not play last week and currently goes with 6,962 points. Former world number one Victoria Azarenka is ranked 14th in the WTA with 3,645 points. Last week she announced that she would not compete in the Tokyo Olympics.

WTA Top Ten:

1. Ashleigh Barty (Australia) – 9,635 points

3. Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus) – 6,965

Two Belarusian players will take part in the men’s Tokyo 2020 Olympic Tennis Event: Ilya Ivashka (66th in the ATP with 1,038 points) and Egor Gerasimov (79th with 926 points).
