MOSCOW, 23 September (BelTA) – A documentary has been produced on the occasion of the 60th anniversary since the establishment of the Brest Fortress Defense Museum thanks to a grant from the president of Russia. The documentary was presented in the Business and Cultural Complex of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia in Moscow on 23 September, BelTA has learned.
The documentary was made by the regional public organization Spirit of Elba with assistance of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, the Embassy of Belarus in Russia, the Belarusian and Russian public associations DOSAAF (the Volunteer Society for Cooperation with the Army, Aviation, and Fleet), and several other organizations.
Andrei Shishkanov, one of the project’s initiators, said during the presentation that rare documentaries and photos from personal and state archives had been used to make the film. “We’ve managed to preserve recollections of Great Patriotic War veterans and creators of the museum in this film,” he said.
Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia Pavel Legky noted: “The Brest Fortress is not just another landmark for Belarusians.” He reminded that a lot has been done in Belarus in the last few years to restore old memorials and build new ones. “We preserve historical memory in the name of future generations,” stressed the diplomat. “We need more projects like this film. I am sure they will be popular, including among young people.”
