MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – Dmitry Dyubin of Belarus won bronze in the men’s 50km speed walking at the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian race walker clocked 3:47.59. Gold went to Maryan Zakalnitsky of Ukraine (3:46.32). Silver was collected by Slovakia’s Matej Toth (3:47.27).
Belarus’ Anastasia Yatsevich had great medal chances in the women’s 50km race walking event. She was second after 14 kilometers of the race, but had to retire due to health problems. Gold in the event went to 2017 world champion Ines Henrigues of Portugal (4:09.21).
Alena Dubitskaya (18.67m), Viktoria Kolb (17.36m) and Elena Abramchuk (17.17m) have qualified for the women’s shot put final. The final event is slated for 8 August.
Dmitry Dyubin’s bronze is Belarus’ first medal at the 2018 European Athletics Championships in Berlin.
Taking part in the 2018 European Athletics Championships are nearly 1,600 athletes from 50 countries. Belarus has fielded 38 athletes.
