MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) has played host to the meeting between Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov and Italy’s Ambassador to Belarus Stefano Bianchi. The talks focused on the issues of expanding scientific cooperation between Belarus and Italy, and also the implementation of a new project entitled Italian-Belarusian Dictionary, BelTA learnt from the NASB press service.
According to Vladimir Gusakov, the development of the Italian-Belarusian dictionary will be a milestone project for the two countries.
Stefano Bianchi said for his part that the idea to develop the Italian-Belarusian dictionary was supported by the Italian embassy in Belarus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy. According to Stefano Bianchi, the project will fill in the existing gap and lay the foundation for active cooperation in language, literature and other humanitarian areas of cooperation.
The initiator of the project is the Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The project was submitted to the competition of international projects, annually held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy. The project won the competition.
The Italian-Belarusian dictionary will be the first lexicographic reference book in the history of the Belarusian linguistics developed for translating texts of different genres and styles, fist of all, fiction and popular-science literature from Italian to Belarusian.
The dictionary will include 35,000 most frequently used words and phrases.
The Italian-Belarusian dictionary will cater for a wide range of users, including school and university teachers and students, translators and also those learning the Italian language.
It is expected that the dictionary will be ready in late 2018.
