Over 60 designers to take part in Belarus Fashion Week

Belarus Fashion Week in Minsk

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) – More than 60 designers will participate in the Belarus Fashion Week (BFW) which will take place in Minsk on 11-14 May, BFW Director Yanina Goncharova told reporters, BelTA has learned.

The program includes 27 shows of children’s, women and men’s apparel. There will be nine presentations beyond the main schedule. Designers will show their works in various formats. Some of them will prepare full-fledged shows, others will present capsule collections for the New Names contest (five items) or one design for the Fashion AIDS Line campaign.

Eight young designers will be selected for the New Names final which will be held on 14 May. All aspiring designers had a chance to display their works six months ago, and only the best of them created real fashion collections. Experts from the A.M. Shirokov Institute of Modern Knowledge, the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, the Vitebsk Technological University worked with the finalists throughout this period. Specialists of these institutions worked as mentors and helped the contestants improve their collections. Apart from that, they were given fabrics. According to Yanina Goncharova, to win in this contest you need a collection of clothes with good commercial prospects.

The contest is aimed at supporting talented students. Close interaction with educational institutions, young designers is essential. It is very important to support creative young people who understand what the fashion business is about, the director of the Belarus Fashion Week is convinced.

The Belarus Fashion Week will include the Off Schedule Belarus Fashion Week program to support young designers, stylists and other people working in the fashion industry, design and other fields. The best designer will receive a grant in the amount of $2,000. The jury will also present grants for education in Italy and France. One of the designers will also receive a grant for the participation in the international fashion project Follow The Fabrika (Russia) and will have an opportunity to display a collection at the Moscow Fashion Week in 2018.

There will be children’s fashion shows. Thirty designers will partake in the Kids’ Fashion Days BFW. By the way, one of the collections will be demonstrated by children who have achieved big success in music, fine art, martial arts, ballet, gymnastics. This will be a charity project, the funds from the sale of tickets will be used for the treatment of children with cancer.

All fashion shows will take place at the National Exhibition Center BelExpo.
