MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ Ivan Tikhon and Sergei Kolomoyets have reached the Olympic hammer throwing final in Rio, BelTA has learned.
Ivan Tikhon threw 76.51 on his first attempt to fulfill the qualifying standard for the final. Sergei Kolomoyets with the result of 74.29 also qualified for the medal event. Belarus’ Pavel Boreisha completed his contention with a throw of 73.33. World champion Pawel Fajdek of Poland missed on the final, throwing 72m. The hammer throwing final will take place in Rio on 19 August.
Belarusian runner Marina Arzamasova reached the 800m semifinal after finishing 2nd in the qualifying with the result of 1:58.44. Belarus’ Yulia Korol clocked 2:01.09 to miss the semifinal stage. The 800m semifinal is scheduled for 19 August.
