MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) - As of 1 October 2016 there were 464 people over the age of 100 in Belarus, BelTA learned from the Labor and Social Security Ministry.

Grodno Oblast is traditionally among the leaders in Belarus in the number of long-livers: as of 1 October this year, there were 89 people over 100. Vitebsk Oblast goes second (70 people) and Minsk Oblast is third (68). Gomel Oblast is home to 66 people who have already celebrated their 100th birthday. There are 59 long-livers in the city of Minsk, 58 in Brest Oblast, and 54 in Mogilev Oblast.

Women considerably prevail among Belarusian long-livers: 399 women and 65 men have turned 100. Thus, women are 6 times as many as men among long-livers in the country.

As of 1 October, there were five people over 110 in Belarus. Two of them living in Grodno and Minsk Oblasts are 115 and older.

According to the universal gerontology classification, people who are 60-75 years old are considered in their later adulthood, people who turn 75 and more to be in a very old age, and those living over 90 are long-livers.
