BREST, 9 August (BelTA) – The 6th international culinary festival Motalskiya Prysmaki will take place in Ivanovo District on 10-11 August. The event will mark the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus, BelTA learnt from senior specialist of the department on ideology, culture and youth affairs of the Ivanovo District Executive Committee Valentina Putsykovich.
In her words, the local clergy came up with a idea to combine these secular and church events. The Holy Transfiguration of Christ Church, a specimen of the 19th century, was reconstructed thanks to the funds raised in Motal. About Br2 billion was used to replace domes and refurbish the interior of the cathedral. There has been decided to include a ceremony of honoring those who took part in the project into the program of the festival.
The annual festival will start with a service in the renewed cathedral. It will be followed by a religious procession to the central square of the agro-town where the Archbishop of Pinsk and Luninets will give his blessing to the start of the festival.
“Every time we are trying to time our culinary festival to some remarkable date. Last year the festival marked the 590th anniversary of the first mentioning of the village of Motal. This time it will be the anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus. I believe the festival and its participants will only benefit from it. We will come up with something new next year. Coming to Motal and tasting local food is insufficient. Any tradition requires further development, including spiritual ,” Valentina Putsykovich said.
The culinary theme, however, is not relegated to the background at the Motal festival. Numerous stalls will present products from local producers. The program of the festival will include a contest among farms, tastings, master classes from prominent cooks of the European and Belarusian cuisine.
Partaking in the festival will be creative collectives from Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, and Poland. The festival will be also attended by representatives of the Sports and Tourism Ministry, the Embassy of Israel, Consulates General of Russia, Ukraine and Poland.
