MOSCOW, 2 February (BelTA) – The Month of Belarusian Culture has opened at the Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow. The campaign has been organized in cooperation with the Belarusian Embassy in Russia, BelTA learned from the press service of the diplomatic mission.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko stressed the importance of such events. Only a close friendly dialogue generates honest respect for each other’s cultural roots, which helps achieve harmony between different ethnic groups, he said. The diplomat expressed confidence that a contact with Belarus’ rich and unique culture will arouse only positive emotions, will help learn more about the country’s past and discover today’s Belarus, a lively modern country with advanced science and culture, which takes care of the heritage of the ancestors.
The opening ceremony of the Month of Belarusian Culture was attended by Chairman of the Federal National Cultural Autonomy of Belarusians in Russia Sergei Kandybovich, Director of the Fund for Children's Literature Support and Development Nadezhda Pilko, and Chairperson of the regional non-governmental organization National Cultural Autonomy of Belarusians in Moscow Alla Tuzhilkina, and representatives of the Belarusian diaspora.
The performance group of the regional non-governmental organization Belarusian National Cultural Autonomy Brotherhood (Tver Oblast) gave a show during the event. Several exhibitions will be running at the Center of Slavic Cultures till 28 February. They feature books by classic Belarusian authors and pictures by Lyudmila Kurilovich, a Vitebsk Oblast native, Deputy Chairperson of the Belarusian National Cultural Autonomy of Moscow Oblast. Another draw will be an exhibition of photos headlined “Traditional and modern Belarus”. Plans have been made to hold a children’s painting competition “I Discover Belarus”.
