Minsk to host Tbilisoba festival in August

Minsk to host Tbilisoba festival in August

MINSK, 7 August (BelTA) – The festival of Georgian culture Tbilisoba will make its return to the Upper Town of Minsk on 24 August for its fifth edition, BelTA has learned from the organizers of the event.

“This year the festival will highlight the friendship between the peoples of Georgia and Belarus through food, music, dance and entertainment. The Georgian band Mgzavrebi that plays ethno, jazz and rock, will be a headliner at the festival. The event will also feature the Georgian band Shvidkatsa that charmed away Angela Merkel during her recent visit to Tbilisi. George Putkaradze, the winner of the First Prize of the 2019 Slavianski Bazaar festival and a folk-rock band that represented Georgia at the Eurovision will also come to Belarus. Belarusian bands and singers will join them,” Director of IDS Borjomi Belarus Denis Krupets said.

A Boeing jet will be used to bring all the performers to Belarus for the festival.

The festival’s food court will stretch across the Upper Town. About 30 catering facilities, which will be added to local cafes and restaurants, will offer both Georgian and Belarusian cuisine.

The festival will feature a dance battle between Mtiuluri, Lyavonikha, vogue, hip hop and contemporary dancers.

The courtyard of the Georgian cultural and educational society Mamuli will host a replication of the Georgian-Belarusian wedding featuring the corresponding customs and traditions and even a largest toast contest.

According to Deputy Head of the Culture Department of the Main Department for Ideology, Culture and Youth Affairs of the Minsk City Hall Aleksandr Shestakov, Tbilisoba is of great importance for the Belarusian capital since the festival was the first one to launch the project of festivals of culture of different countries in the Upper Town. “This is going to be a great family festival,” he said.
