MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – The Day of South Korean Culture will take place in Minsk’s Upper Town on 5 August, BelTA learned from the press service of Minsk City Hall.

The festival will run from 13 p.m. to 17 p.m. The Korean creative team Arirang at the Association of Belarusian Koreans will give a concert featuring South Korean percussion music, dances with knives, fans, and drums. The artists will tell the legends about how the dances appeared and will show hanbok, the traditional Korean costume.

As for contemporary culture, there will be another concert featuring Belarusian bands covering popular Korean songs. “K-pop is South Korean popular music which is famous both in the country and in the world. Hallyu, the new wave of South Korea’s pop culture, encourages young people to sing, dance, take part in K-pop contests and festivals, and study the Korean language,” the festival’s organizers said.

Members of the Vertushka taekwondo club will give performances and hold a workshop to present the Korean martial art. The festival will also feature Korean calligraphy and traditional Korean games: Yut Nori (board game), Tuho (throwing arrows into a jar), and Kinchulnomgi (rope skipping). A face painting stand will be open for children.

The guests will also be able to taste traditional Korean dishes, among them kimchi (spicy fermented cabbage), japchae (sweet potato noodles with beef and vegetables), and gimbap (rice rolls).

The festival is powered by Minsk City Hall, the Association of Belarusian Koreans, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Belarus, and the Belarusian Center of National Cultures.
