MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – The ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup will take place in Minsk in 2017, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Speed Skating Union.
The ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series calendar was approved at a meeting of the International Skating Union in Lausanne. Speed skaters will compete for the 2018 Olympics berths starting next year. Belarus hopes to get 2-4 places in the Olympics Games in PyeongChang.
Among the favorites in this sport are athletes from Russia, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Canada and China.
The ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series consists of six legs. The first World Cup will take place in Calgary, Canada on 4-6 November 2016. Other World Cup events will be held in Salt Lake City, the United States; Shanghai, China; Gangneung, Republic of Korea; Dresden, Germany. The final World Cup will take place in Minsk on 10-12 February 2017 where winners of the 2016/17 season are to be named.
