MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ leading cyclist Vasily Kiriyenko finished second in the men’s individual time trial at the UCI Road World Championships 2016 in Doha on 12 October, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian covered the 40km distance in 45 minutes 28.04 seconds, 45.95 seconds behind Tony Martin of Germany (44:42.99). Bronze went to Spain’s Jonathan Castroviejo, 10.91 seconds back.
Konstantin Sivtsov of Belarus finished 32nd (3:25.59 behind the winner), while Belarus’ Bronislav Samoilov crossed the finish line 45th (5:08.39 back).
A year ago Vasily Kiriyenko clinched the men’s time trial title in Richmond, the United States and is considered among the world’s leaders in the discipline.
Earlier in Doha, Alena Omelyusik finished tenth in the women’s individual time trial.
The UCI Road World Championships 2016 in Doha will be over on 16 October.
