POLOTSK, 4 April (BelTA) – The international TV project Francysk Skaryna in Foreign Languages will be implemented in anticipation of the 500th anniversary of book printing in Belarus, BelTA learned from Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich, who chaired a session of the working group in charge of preparing the Belarusian Written Language Day celebrations in Polotsk on 4 April.
According to Lilia Ananich, mass media will play a major role during Belarusian Written Language Day. The international television project Francysk Skaryna in Foreign Languages is being discussed with the Belarusian state television and radio company Belteleradiocompany. Francysk Skaryna’s preface to the Judith book has been translated into 70 languages. “We would like to utilize television to visit various countries with this preface. We would like Francysk Skaryna’s words to be said by speakers of French, Italian, Chinese and all the languages Francysk Skaryna’s preface has been translated into. I think the action will deserve attention in the eyes of the general public in Belarus and abroad,” said the Belarusian Information Minister.
The official stressed that the traditional book fair during Belarusian Written Language Day in Polotsk will be refreshed. “A Belarusian book printing museum now operates in the city. Every year we hand over the best Belarusian printed books to Polotsk. The books that win the national book art contest are chosen to replenish the collection of the museum in Polotsk only after being put on display as part of international book expos in Warsaw, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Belgrade, Beijing and other cities,” noted the Information Minister.
Speaking about the timeline for preparing the celebration of Belarusian Written Language Day in Polotsk, Lilia Ananich emphasized that scenarios of all the events have to be ready in early May. “It is necessary to invite artists and start rehearsing. Because a celebration is not just a collection of the best creative professionals but an integrated themed program propped by artistic and historical action,” added the official.
Participants of the Polotsk session of the working group in charge of preparing the Belarusian Written Language Day celebrations discussed preparations for the celebration in detail. Various proposals were voiced. Participants of the session visited the main sites of the forthcoming celebration.
