“Belarus’ state innovative development program puts great focus on the development of the necessary infrastructure as well as on large enterprises and investment projects. We want to boost the contribution of small- and medium-sized innovative business to the economic development. We have many young talents. This is why we should be building up the infrastructure that will help young innovators turn their ideas into a product, start a business and production, and then expand it. It is also important to intensify international cooperation in science and innovations. This is why we have built this center in the Politekhnik science park under BNTU,” Chairman of Belarus’ State Science and Technology Committee Alexander Shumilin noted.

According to the park’s Director General Yuri Alekseyev, Politekhnik aims to support scientific and innovative cooperation with Belarus’ strategic partners in science and technology and increase the export of R&D products. The international R&D center will form the necessary basis for this activity. “The State Science and Technology Committee has already opened centers for bilateral scientific and technical cooperation with Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and China in Politekhnik,” he said. There are now eight similar centers in the park.

Alexander Shumilin underlined that there is one of the largest Belarus-China R&D centers in BNTU’s science park. “The opening of the international R&D center will give a new impetus to joint projects. The new venue fits in the general concept. The park will produce ideas and establish startups that will keep developing in the business incubator of the Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone. Successful projects will expand, and large ventures will emerge both in Belarus and China,” he added.The Belarusian government devotes great attention to science parks as venues to organize innovative high-technology enterprises. “As of today, such parks employ nearly 1,500 people. A decision has been adopted to set up a science park in Grodno. In 2016, science parks manufactured almost $40 million worth of innovative products. About 99% of the products made in such parks are innovative,” Alexander Shumilin noted. The number of jobs and the production of R&D goods in the resident companies of Belarus’ science parks surged more than two times over the last five years.
