MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – A new program, Hippo Show, will premiere at the Belarusian State Circus in Minsk on 31 January, art director of the circus Vytautas Grigaliunas told a press conference on 30 January, BelTA has learnt.
Hippo Show, the world’s unique entertainment directed by Lyudmila Akhundova and Tofik Akhundov, will feature three heavyweight artists – hippopotamuses Zlatyi, Yana and Aida. The animals perform amazing tricks such as trotting, climbing a ladder, building pyramids, jumping over one another and waltzing.
According to People’s Artist of Russia, tamer Tofik Akhundov, working with these animals demands great efforts. Hippos are known not only for their eminent strength but also for their willfulness. Apart from that, hippos are a bit lazy and if they are “loaded” too much they can show a real spirit of stubbornness.
Each of the three hippopotamuses is seven years old. They have been brought from Tel Aviv wildlife. The hippos feel good in the Minsk circus. They eat up to 30kg of vegetables, oat, hay and other delicacies on a daily basis. One of the hippos weighs over 1 tonne, with the two others almost nearing the weight.
The outstanding tamer assured the journalists that he is an absolute pioneer in the work with these sullen amphibians.
Another surprise Lyudmila and Tofik Akhundovs prepare for the Belarusian audience is a show with monkeys. Funny macaques and baboons perform tricks with trampolines, flip-flaps and many more.
According to the organizers, the show will feature a big number of stunts, virtuosic feats and exquisite artistry. The program of the show will include prize-holders of Russian and international circus competitions and festivals: acrobats directed by Honorary Artist of Russia Boris Kim (shows Cubes, Acrobats Atop the Mast, Jumping Stilts), aerialists, a juggling equilibrist and a group of jugglers, horses, dogs and many more. Clowns Alex and Bella Sherr, Club House duet, will bring real high-flying fun into the entertainment.
Hippo Show at the Belarusian State Circus will run though 20 April 2014.
