Gold for Belarus at UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U17 World Championships

MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – Akim Gnedtchik of Belarus won the UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U17 World Championships that took place in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, BelTA has learned.

Four Belarusian athletes took part in the individual event and succeeded in qualifying for the final. A total of 36 out 74 athletes successfully went through qualification. Akim Gnedtchik secured an overall victory, showing best results in fencing and being one of the best in the obstacle race. His stable performance in swimming and laser run helped him finish with a strong advantage over his competitors.

Earlier this year Akim Gnedtchik clinched the European champion title. Silver and bronze of the UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U17 World Championships went to Omar Abdelkader of Egypt and Ukraine’s Maksym Kovalchuk respectively. As for the other Belarusian athletes, Yahor Yerafeyeu finished 13th, Aliaksandr Kaluhin – 26th, and Tsimafei Prakopchyk – 29th.

Four Belarusian athletes competed in the women’s event. Kira Kavalenka and Karyna Khomich failed to come through the semifinal. The women’s final was won by Farida Khalil of Egypt. Belarus’ Yanina Tseliapniova placed 17th, while her teammate Palina Bubnova finished 32nd. The next event on the pentathlon calendar is the UIPM 2024 Pentathlon U19 World Championships which is due to take place in Druskininkai, Lithuania on 23-29 September.
