MINSK, 2 August (BelTA) – Anna Kovalevskaya, a member of the Belarusian armed forces won the Athlete military and sports competition during the Warrior of the Commonwealth international military contest, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
“Belarusian Private First Class Anna Kovalevskaya was second to none among women. She claimed first place at the Athlete military and sports competition held as part of the Warrior of the Commonwealth international military contest,” the post on the website reads.
Junior Sergeant Lilia Dautova (Russia) came in second. Junior Sergeant Lyudmila Gubareva (Kazakhstan) picked up bronze.
Senior Sergeant Askhat Baydualetov (Kazakhstan) won the men’s competition, followed by Senior Sergeant Sergei Chernov (Belarus). Junior Sergeant Dmitry Aklevkin (Russia) took third place.
According to the finalists, Athlete was the most difficult challenge among all the contests. Military officers were to show their best speed, agility, strength, and stamina. Athlete is a military multisport event that includes several running races, chin-up, an obstacle course, grenade throwing, and push-up.
The Commonwealth Warrior competition has been held annually since 2009. Belarus hosts the event for the second time, the first time was in 2014. The international competition is hosted by the 120th Independent Mechanized Brigade of the North-Western Operational Command, the Belarusian Great Patriotic War Museum, and the Belarusian Army Drama Theater from 29 July to 5 August. The event gathered members of the armed forces of Belarus, Russia, Armenia, and Kazakhstan.
