MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – Delegations, which took part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Minsk, are happy with the work of volunteers, BelTA learned from Olga Salamakha, Deputy Chief Director of the Belarusian TV channel Belarus One and Executive Producer of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018. She took part in the ceremony to award winners of the national contest Volunteer of the Year on 5 December.
Olga Salamakha said: “Everything was ideal. I can say that those were the best volunteers in the entire history of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The delegations our volunteers worked with were exceedingly satisfied. The volunteers met them at the airport, worked with them in the hotel, in the press center, during rehearsals and the finals. All the foreign guests have fond memories of our volunteers.”
In her words, about 70 volunteers were employed to assist with the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and another 200 people helped with the show itself. “I am convinced that any volunteer, who has worked with us, would agree to do it one more time. If such events take place in Belarus, we will definitely invite such vigorous guys,” noted the executive producer.
“We are proud of the fact that volunteers of [the Belarusian Republican Youth Union] BRSM and law enforcement volunteers became part of the international team of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Our volunteers are already getting registered on the official website of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 in order to contribute to that important spot event,” said Roman Mamchenko, coordinator of the BRSM’s volunteer movement Kind Heart.
Roman Mamchenko went on saying that some young BRSM members have already participated in such events. “Our activists worked in information centers in Minsk, in hotels and the fan village during the 2014 world ice hockey championship. They helped out during the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Minsk in May 2015. They contributed to events of the 45th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees and many other competitions. Our volunteers have charisma. They are very communicative. Above all, they are interested in casting our country in the best light,” stressed the volunteer movement supervisor.
The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in about 200 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in ten sports will be qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
