MINSK, 6 June (BelTA) – The Dubrovsky musical, the joint project of Belarus and Russia, will be performed at the Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk 2014, the project manager, Rector of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts (BUK) Yuri Bondar has told reporters, BelTA has learnt.
“The musical will be shown at Slavonic Bazaar during the Union State Days. We will take the entire troupe there – about 200 people. We will not economize on transportation,” the rector said.
Taking part in the musical are over 100 BUK students of all majors: orchestra musicians, soloists, choreographers, performers, directors, managers. The rector noted that the project was financed entirely by the university, with no subsidies used.
“We tried to create a competitive product that could be shown in other countries. We have been working on the musical since November 2013. The most expensive tickets were sold in the first three days. Almost all other tickets have been sold by now,” Yuri Bondar said.
The project was implemented in Belarus for a reason. The main character of the novel, Vladimir Dubrovsky, had a prototype – landlord Ostrovsky from Vitebsk Province.
The author of the music and producer of the project Kim Breitburg said that the musical was staged in the Novosibirsk Theater of Musical Comedy in 2010. The composer noted that this is one of Russia’s best musical theaters. “This musical has been played in Novosibirsk till the present day and is a great success. However, the version we will show in Minsk will be different. It is important that it involves students of your leading culture university. The project is absolutely professional,” he said.
Kim Breitburg said that the performance will be shown in Minsk 1-2 times a month. The troupe might also tour other Belarusian cities.
The musical is based on the same-name novel by Alexander Pushkin. The libretto was written by Karen Kavaleryan. The team of directors is led by Merited Artist of Russia Nikolai Androsov and Belarusian director Alexander Vavilov.
