Days of Belarusian Culture open in Moldova

CHISINAU, 30 September (BelTA) – Days of Belarusian Culture opened in Moldova on 30 September, BelTA has learned.

Speaking at the official opening ceremony at the Lunkevic National Philharmonic Hall Belarus’ Culture Minister Boris Svetlov hailed the organization of the Days of Culture, stressing successful cooperation between Belarus and Moldova in the humanitarian area and emphasizing the importance of culture in mutual understanding between the two nations.

The Culture Days kicked off with an exhibition of tapestry and a concert featuring the Belarusian State Ensemble of Folk Music Svyata at the Lunkevic National Philharmonic Hall. The exposition has showcased 16 works of famous artists, members of the Union of Artists of Belarus. All the artworks have been created in traditional weaving, embroidery and textile mosaic techniques with the use of stylistic and technological models, jute, synthetic materials and ceramics (the most popular forms of decorative and applied art in modern Belarus).

The concert of the Belarusian State Ensemble of Folk Music Svyata was a success and left a lasting impression on the Moldovan audience.

The Days of Belarusian Culture have been organized by the Culture Ministries of the two states under the auspices of the Belarusian embassy in Moldova. The Days will last through 2 October and will be held in Chisinau and Moldova’s northern capital Balti. The program will include events aimed at promoting Belarusian traditions and national customs in Moldova, intensifying cultural cooperation between the two countries.

On 1 October the Belarusian State Ensemble of Folk Music Svyata will perform in Balti. On the same day the Chisinau Center of Culture and Art Odeon will host the screening of Belarusian films, “Belye Rosy. Return” and “Apostles' Footprints”. On 2 October Odeon will host a presentation of Belarusfilm animated pictures and the feature film Brest Fortress.

The program of the Days will also include a meeting of Belarus Culture Minister Boris Svetlov and other representatives of the Belarusian delegation with the Belarusian diaspora in Moldova at the Belarusian Cultural Center that is currently being set up at the Belarusian-Moldovan joint venture Keramin Group.

The agreement to hold Days of Belarusian Culture in Moldova in autumn 2015 was reached after the meeting of the Belarusian-Moldovan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk on 15 July. It was also decided that the Days of Moldovan Culture will be held in Belarus in 2016.
