BREST, 3 May (BelTA) - Moments in the Brest Fortress history captured in photographs are on display in a museum near the Polish Terespol, BelTA learned from Aleksei Molochnikov, the head of the educational department of the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex.
The exhibition “Brest Fortress in photographs of the 20th century” is running in the Local History Museum in Kobylany. The exhibition includes 54 photographs, mostly black-and-white, from the holdings of the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex. The exhibition tells about the fate of the citadel in Tsarist Russia, during World War I, deployment of a Polish garrison, the heroic defense at the start of the Great Patriotic War.
“This is only a small part of the photographs that we have. We have selected the most interesting, spectacular photos about the military events, the life of the Polish garrison, raging fires in the fortress, its aerial view during the defense in June 1941, fierce battles for the East Fort,” Aleksei Molochnikov said.
The museum in Kobylany is literally on the other side of the border from the Brest Fortress where the military fortifications have also survived. One of them - the powder cellar – hosts a local history exposition. The museum displays arms, uniforms, layouts of the forts of Brest-Litovsk Fortress. The photo exhibition prepared by Belarusian partners will stay open there by the end of the year.
The historical exposition has been opened with the support of the Association “Development of the Terespol Gmina” with which the Brest Fortress Memorial Complex has signed a cooperation agreement. According to Aleksei Molochnikov, the partners plan to implement new joint projects.
One more exhibition of the Brest Fortress will open in Russia’s Belgorod in the run-up to Victory Day. The presentation of the exhibition “Chronicles. Brest Fortress. Time. Events. People” will take place in the Prokhorovskoye Field Museum on 5 May. The exposition will feature more than 100 rare exhibits from the holdings of the Defense Museum of the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex.
