MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – A multi-volume edition about the achievements of the Republic of Belarus over the past 25 years will be released in 2018, Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich told reporters as she presented an exhibition to mark the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian book printing at the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly on 3 April, BelTA has learned.
The multi-volume project that will sum up what the country has achieved over the years of independence will become one of the most important book publishing projects launched in 2017 when the Belarusian book printing celebrates its 500th anniversary, the minister said.
The celebration program features over 70 events, including conferences, exhibitions, roundtables, and interesting publishing projects. Work is underway on an electronic encyclopedia of the Republic of Belarus, a multi-layer internet source of information about all aspects of life in the country. Lilia Ananich pointed out that the encyclopedia is the passport of the country.
The projects prove that the book publishing industry in Belarus receives considerable state support. “This year, over Br2 million has been earmarked to support book printing in Belarus. The support is granted to encyclopedias, fiction books, and other socially important projects,” the minister said.
Lilia Ananich added that the book exhibition displayed at the Council of the Republic will tour Russia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Poland and China. “In this way, we will promote Belarus as a highly developed country with many achievements. This solid foundation has enabled us to become a country famous for new information technologies, achievements in space exploration and different fields of science,” the minister added.
The exhibition features a functional printing press inviting the visitors to try on the role of a book printer.
