MINSK, 6 March (BelTA) – A preliminary presentation of the bids for hosting the 2021 IIHF World Ice Hockey Championship took place in Zurich, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation (BIHF).
Belarus and Latvia’s joint bid was presented to the IIHF Evaluation Committee by BIHF Chairman Igor Rachkovsky and Secretary General Yaroslav Zavgorodny, and also Secretary General of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation Secretary Viesturs Koziols.
“Our presentation made a good impression on the members of the IIHF Evaluation Committee. Finland, of course, is a serious contender in this competition. After the presentation, the members of the committee recommended that both bids should be submitted for the final vote to be held at the annual IIHF Congress in Cologne on 19 May,” Yaroslav Zavgorodny said.
Finland has hosted the world championship eight times. Minsk played host to an Ice Hockey World Championship for the first time in 2014. Latvia was the host of the international tournament in 2006.
