MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) - Belavia airlines carried 2 million passengers in less than a year, Minsk National Airport told BelTA as it welcomed the 2 millionth passenger today.
The two millionth passenger flew to Minsk from Amsterdam by the Belavia B2 868 flight at 16.30 local time. "This is the first time in 19 years of Belavia’s history that we carried 2 million passengers in less than a year. This year's passenger traffic increased by 5.7% over the similar period last year,” Belavia General Director Anatoly Gusarov noted.
Belavia representatives explained that the growth of passenger traffic was made possible thanks to the development of the route network, increase in the frequency and the number of transit passengers. Another reason was the expansion of the air fleet and transition to a hybrid model of transport.
According to the forecasts, the total number of Belavia passengers will reach 2.085 million in 2015. In 2014 it was 1.973 million.
Belavia is the largest air carrier in Belarus by the number of passengers and cargoes it transports. In January 2014 the Belarusian airline acquired a legal status of an open joint stock company. Belavia operates 27 aircraft, and offers regulars flights to 46 destinations in Europe and Asia. Belavia joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 1997 and the European Regions Airline Association (ERAA) in 2010. In January-September 2015 Belavia’s passenger traffic increased by 4% over the same period last year.
