MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian wooden chapel in London is participating in the international contest Building of the Year, BelTA learned from the website ArchDaily.com.

The Church of St Cyril of Turau and All the Patron Saints of the Belarusian People was built in 2016 as a memorial to the victims of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. It is located in front of the Francis Skaryna Belarusian Library and Museum founded by Greek-Catholic priests from Belarus.

To vote for the chapel, you must follow the registration link and complete the required steps to become a registered user or use the existing My ArchDaily account.

All in all, the contest will see 3,500 architectural objects compete for the Building of the Year award.

Earlier on, the Belarusian chapel received the New London Architecture Award in People's Choice category via online voting. Last year, The Times named it the first wooden church built in London since the Great Fire of 1666. Moreover, the chapel earned the RIBA London Regional Award 2017 of the Royal Institute of British Architects and was named among the 50 best buildings in England.
