MOSCOW, 11 December (BelTA) – Professor Ivan Saverchenko, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Director of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literature Studies of Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences, member of the Presidium of the Union of Writers of Belarus, was honored with a Stars of Commonwealth Award. The ceremony took place at the 12th CIS Forum of Artistic and Scientific Intelligentsia on 11 December, BelTA informs.
The awards were presented by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets.
Ivan Saverchenko was honored with the award for numerous historical novels and essays about prominent personalities of Belarus. His books are widely used to teach students in the CIS countries. Ivan Saverchenko authored 114 scientific publications about philology, history and philosophy, including eight monographs. He prepared seven editions of specimens of the Belarusian written language and literature from the 10th century to the first half of the 20th century, which were collected and adapted for Russian-speaking readers.
Other winners of this year’s award Stars of the Commonwealth come from another seven CIS states, among them Azerbaijani painter Farhad Gurban oglu Khalilov, Armenian composer Tigran Mansurian, Deputy Director of the Astana Opera and Ballet Theater Toleubek Alpiyev, Chairman of the Physics and Technology Science, Math, Mining and Geology Science Department of Kyrgyzstan’s National Academy of Sciences Altai Borubayev, Moldovan composer, People’s Artist of the USSR Eugen Doga, Russian choreographer, People’s Artist of the USSR Yuri Grigorovich, and People’s Artist of Tajikistan Mashrab Ibodullo Rakhmon.
The Stars of the Commonwealth Award was established by the CIS Humanitarian Cooperation Council and the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation in 2010. The award is bestowed in recognition of the most significant world-level humanitarian achievements which promote the development of every CIS member state and the CIS in general. The award is presented in three nominations: for achievements in science and education, culture and art, and humanitarian activities. Up to three awards are bestowed in each nomination.
The 12th CIS Forum of Artistic and Scientific Intelligentsia will run till 12 December. It has gathered representatives of Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Russia. The event focuses on the role of humanitarian cooperation in strengthening and supporting family values and traditions in the CIS. The forum sections will consider various aspects of professional cooperation: interaction in education and youth policy, and also preparations for the forthcoming Year of Culture in the CIS. Armenia’s Goris will be presented at the forum as the 2018 CIS Capital of Culture.
