ISLAMABAD, 11 November (BelTA) – A Belarusian information and culture center has been opened in the National Library of Pakistan, BelTA has learned.
Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov said during the opening ceremony: “Today we witness a milestone event in the history of Belarusian-Pakistani relations. A Belarusian information and culture center will be opened in the city of Islamabad at premises of one of Pakistan’s most important cultural establishments — the National Library. The center will be a corner of Belarus, which is a country that treasures its traditions and the rich cultural heritage.”
In his words, Belarus expects the center to have a great future since the idea to set up the center was born on the basis of mutual understanding of the broad prospects for Belarusian-Pakistani interaction. The project has been implemented with dedicated support at the top state level. Andrei Kobyakov stated that the Belarusian information and culture center in Islamabad is one of the first Belarusian-Pakistani projects that have been implemented thanks to the bilateral agreements.
The center has been set up for the sake of developing mutually beneficial Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation in the sphere of culture, humanitarian affairs, economy, science and technology, education, tourism and information spheres.
During the solemn opening ceremony Roman Motulsky, Director of the National Library of Belarus, presented a book exhibition featuring the best books printed by the country’s top publishing houses. About 200 books offering encyclopedia knowledge, popular science, fiction, promotional literature were represented.
The center also has a book collection compiled by the National Library, libraries of the Culture Ministry and the Information Ministry. The collection features about 800 books on various topics.
For the sake of enabling access to up-to-date and publicly important information about the Republic of Belarus the National Library of Belarus has prepared a website offering virtual newsroom experience to the official representative offices of the Republic of Belarus and organizations abroad. The website has collected references to the most respected databases about Belarus and collections compiled by libraries, archives, government agencies, education and science institutions. The website covers the main spheres of state, economic, and cultural life of Belarus.
The Belarusian information and culture center targets personnel of Pakistani government agencies and organizations of culture, science and education.
