MINSK, 3 September (BelTA) - Belarusian and foreign writers will launch new joint projects in 2018, the deputy director of the Zvyazda Publishing House, the chief editor of the Neman magazine Aleksei Cherota told the journalists, BelTA has learned.

Such agreements have been reached following the roundtable "Literature as a path to each other", which took place in the Napoleon Orda museum in the village of Vorotsevichi, Ivanovo District. "Special editions of the magazines Neman, Youth, Byarozka have been issued for the roundtable. The two issues of the Literature and Art newspaper have been also dedicated to this event. The poems of our guest from Russia’s Bashkortostan Zulfiya Hannanova will be published in the 9th issue of the Neman magazine. The negotiations with writers from other countries were conducted. I think that in the near future our readers will be able to get acquainted with their works on the pages of our periodicals," Aleksey Cherota said.

According to his words, this year the roundtable has been attended by the writers from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ecuador, which happened for the first time. "We talked about the translation of national literature into different languages. Our foreign guests have presented the literature of their countries. Belarusians have told them about what is happening in our literature, about its achievements and problems," the Deputy Director said.

Aleksei Cherota also added that next year the even may be held in a new format, which will help to present Belarusian literature more widely during the discussion. "The roundtable has time constraints. But there are so many foreign participants that come to us, and first of all we should give them an opportunity to speak out. During the two days of the Belarusian Written Language Day local and foreign writers meet and agree on joint projects. We will try to change the format of the roundtable to introduce Belarusian literature better next year, " he stressed.

Such roundtables on the margins of the Belarusian Written Language Day have been held since September 2007. During this time, the writers from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, China, Moldova, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Montenegro and other countries have visited Belarus. Strong international literary ties have been established. As the result the books of Belarusian poetry and prose translated into other languages have been published. For example, such books have been published in Ashgabat, Baku, Grozny, Dushanbe, Yerevan, Kazan, Moscow, Elista. The poets Chingiz Alioglu (Azerbaijan) and Edward Militonyan (Armenia) have been awarded with the Francysk Skaryna medals.

The roundtable has been organized by the Information Ministry, the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, the Ivanovo District Executive Committee, the Writers' Union of Belarus, the Zvyazda Publishing House, and others.
