MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes clinched three medals on the first day of the World Para Snow Sports Championships in Lillehammer, Norway, BelTA has learned.
Sviatlana Sakharenka (Dzmitry Budzilovich) claimed gold in the 10km Cross Country, Visually Impaired. Valiantsina Shyts took silver in the 7.5km Cross Country, Sitting. Katsiaryna Shastsina Komar placed 10th in the discipline. Yury Holub (Mikita Maslouski) collected bronze in the 12.5km Cross Country, Visually Impaired.
Belarus is represented at the event by more than 20 athletes competing in skiing and biathlon competitions. The World Para Snow Sports Championships has gathered a total of 800 athletes from all over the world in Lillehammer. This is the first such event featuring snowboarding, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, biathlon and snowboarding in one country.
The competitions in Lillehammer will be over on 23 January. After that the Belarusian athletes will travel to Oestersund, Sweden for the final World Cup ahead of the Paralympic Games 2022. The Winter Paralympic Games will take place in Beijing on 4-13 March.
