MINSK, 2 August (BelTA) – Belarusian school students clinched two medals at the International Economics Olympiad, BelTA learned from the press service of the university.
Silver went to Denis Rabchuk (Gymnasium No.1, Brest). Ilya Yakimuk (Brest Pushkin Lyceum No.1) claimed bronze. The Belarusian team also included Aleksei Drozdov (Mogilev Oblast State Lyceum No. 3), Yelizaveta Pranovich and Anastasiya Shaveiko (BSU Lyceum, Minsk).
The students won the right to represent the national team in the international competition after winning the School League of the BSU Open Olympiad in World Economy. The event was held by the Department of International Economic Relations with the support of the Department of English of Economic Specialties of the Faculty of International Relations of Belarusian State University (BSU).
The International Economics Olympiad was held online from 26 July to 1 August. More than 200 high school students from 44 countries participated in the event. The students competed in three rounds, with tasks devoted to economics, financial literacy, and business case solving.
The Belarusian team was led by Yekaterina Stolyarova, associate professor at the Department of International Economic Relations at Belarusian State University.
The first International Economics Olympiad for high school students was held in Russia in 2018. This season it was organized by Latvia. The competition aims to identify and support gifted young people and improve the quality of economic education.
