MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – Belarus will travel to Biel to play Switzerland in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off on 15-17 September, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Tennis Federation.

The match will be held on an indoor hard court at the Swiss Tennis Arena. This new multi-purpose sport center, sitting 2,500 people, will host a Davis Cup match for the first time.

This season the Belarusian team had successful Europe/Africa Zone Group I home matches against Romania (3-2) and Austria (3-1) and got the right to compete for a place in the elite division. Switzerland fell 0-5 to the United States in the World Group first round.

The winner in the Switzerland-Belarus encounter will play in the World Group next season. The runner-up will play in Europe/Africa Zone Group I.

Belarus is currently 24^th in the Davis Cup rankings, Switzerland is 6^th. Belarus last played in the World Group 10 years ago. The semifinal in 2004 has been the team’s biggest achievement so far.
