MINSK, 15 November (BelTA) – Svetlana Timoshenko of Belarus claimed the champion title in the 80kh weight category at the ongoing World Sambo Championships in Morocco on 15 November, BelTA has learned.
In the final the Belarusian was too strong for Maria Oreshkova of Bulgaria.
On the second day of the tournament which is underway at the Mohamed V Sport Center in Casablanca the Belarusian sambo fighters claimed five more medals. Tatiana Matsko clinched silver losing to Russia’s Anna Shcherbakova in the 60kg final. Marina Zharskaya (52kg), Vladislav Burd (57kg), Stepan Popov (74kg) and Yevgeny Semochkin (under 100kg) bagged bronze medals.
On the first day of the world sport forum Yekaterina Prokopenko claimed silver in her 60kg weight category. Andrei Kazusenok (under 90kg) and Kristina Zhukovets (under 72kg) collected bronze medals.
Following the two days of the competitions Belarus goes with 9 (one gold, two silver and six bronze) medals.
