MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian national team placed 14th in the overall medal standings of the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw, Poland. Belarus clinched 11 (four gold, two silver, and five bronze) medals, BelTA has learned.
Belarusian water skier Natalia Berdnikova won two gold medals. Gold also went to Vitaly Gurkov (Thai boxing, 75kg) and Dmitry Gavrilov (Finswimming Bi Fins 100m Men).
Acrobatic gymnasts Artur Belyakov and Olga Melnik were second in the Mixed Pair event. One more silver was claimed by Yulia Ivonchik, Veronika Nabokina and Karina Sandovich in the Women’s Group.
In the rhythmic gymnastics Yekaterina Galkina bagged two bronze medals in the Ball and Ribbon routines. Thai boxer Nikita Shostak (81kg), water skier Alexander Isayev and Finswimming Bi Fins 50m swimmer also claimed bronze medals.
Russia topped the medal table with 63 (28, 21, 14) medals. Second placed Germany with 42 (18, 10, 14) medals. Italy was third with 42 (16, 13, 13) medals.
The World Games, held once in four years, are meant for sports, or disciplines or events within a sport, that are not contested in the Olympic Games. The 2017 World Games were held for the tenth time from 20 to 30 July 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland. The program included 37 sport disciplines.
