MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Belarus may host the IIHF World Championship again in the future, First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Maxim Ryzhenkov said in a TV show on 30 March, BelTA has learned.
“We are currently mulling over the possibilities for Belarus host the IIHF World Championship whether in 2020, 2021 or 2022. We have already voiced our intention to the International Ice Hockey Federation,” noted Maxim Ryzhenkov.
In his words, Belarus as a possible venue to host the 2019 IWF World Weightlifting Championships has also been discussed. “This has to be supported by the country’s corresponding bid,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said. Apart from that, Minsk is gearing up to host the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2019.
“We are also in talks on hosting one or two big basketball competitions in the near future. The Belarusian Handball Federation is working hard to prepare for the IHF Men’s Junior World Championship in Belarus,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.
