Belarus joins COMUS project
TBILISI, 18 September (BelTA) – Belarus has acceded to the joint project of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Community-Led Urban Strategies in Historic Towns” (COMUS). The cooperation protocol was signed in Tbilisi that is hosting a meeting of the second part of the Eastern Partnership Culture Program on 18 September, BelTA has learned.
The document was inked by Belarusian Deputy Culture Minister Alexander Yatsko. The project is focused on revitalization of historic towns, raising large-scale investments both within and outside the country.
The current project involves six countries: Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia. Every country has designated a historic town which will be the venue for meetings of experts, seminars, and master classes by foreign specialists.
Belarus designated Mstislavl as the pilot historic town. In 2015-2016, foreign specialists will be coming to Mstislavl to share their experience and best practices. Specialists from different regions of Belarus will take part in these meetings to study modern practices of management of historic towns. “The project is interesting not only to one particular town but also to other towns. It gives us additional knowledge on how to develop business plans that meet the requirements of European financial institutions, which enables us to take part in other events that provide grants for cultural projects,” Alexander Yatsko explained.
