MINSK, 29 August (BelTA) – Belarusian para-rower Lyudmila Volchek claimed the AS women’s single sculls class bronze on day two of the 2014 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, BelTA has learned.

In the final heat the Belarusian finished third clocking 5:39.1 minutes. The race was won by Birgit Skarstein of Norway with the time of 5:22.12. Silver went to Moran Samuel of Israel (5:33.86). The Belarusian was faster 2012 Paralympics champion Alla Lysenko of Ukraine that came in fourth. Lyudmila Volchek is a three-time champion of the Winter Olympics in cross-country skiing and has been successfully performing in rowing.

As for the performance of the Belarusian national rowing team, the Women’s Eight W8+ of Anastasia Skrobut, Yulia Sidoruk, Alexandra Yukhnovich, Inna Nikulina, Alesya Leshkevich, Margarita Krechko, Anna Sycheva, Tatiana Pigareva and Yaroslava Pavlovich could not advance to Final A after finishing fourth. The Quadruple Sculls of yekaterina Karsten, Yekaterina Shlyupskaya, Yulia Bichik and Tatiana Kukhta reached the semifinal to also finish fourth, trailing 0.72 seconds to New Zealand. Tatiana Klimovich is fifth in the women’s single sculls. The double lightweight scull of Irina Leskova and Elena Krivosheyenko took the final 17^th place.

The Men Eight M8+ of Vladimir Vrublevsky, Nikolai Sharlap, Igor Pashevich, Yevgeny Alyakhnovich, Denis Surovets, Vadim Lyalin, Denis Migal, Dmitry Furman, Piotr Petrinich will compete in Final B on 31 August.

On 29 August Stanislav Shcherbachenya will compete for the men’s single sculls Final A. The competitions will be over on 31 August.
