MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number 37 Victoria Azarenka has secured her third victory at the ongoing Guadalajara Open tournament ousting world number 15 Madison Keys of the United States, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, to reach the quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian will next face world number 7 Coco Gauff of the United States.
Earlier, Victoria Azarenka defeated Russia’s world number 130 Elina Avanesyan, 6-4, 6-2, and world number 8 Paula Badosa of Spain, who was forced to retire after the first set.
In the doubles round of Last 16 Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Lin Zhu of China lost to the U.S. pair Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, 6-7 (1-7), 5-7. In the opener the Belarusian-Chinese duo beat Sophie Chang of the United States and Indonesia’s Aldila Sutjiadi, 7-5, 6-2.
The tournament in Guadalajara will be over on 23 October.
