MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) – Victoria Azarenka of Belarus won the 2020 WTA Comeback Player of the Year title, BelTA has learned.
In this nomination the Belarusian athlete overpassed Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria, Laura Siegemund of Germany and Patricia Maria Tig of Romania. This year former world number one Victoria Azarenka, currently ranked 13th, won the tournament in New York and reached the final in the US Open and Ostrava.
World number 10 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus was nominated for the 2020 WTA Player of the Year. The media vote gave this title to 22-year-old Sofia Kenin of the United States. She captured her maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open and advanced to her second career Grand Slam final at Roland Garros.
19-year-old Iga Swiatek of Poland swept the 2020 WTA Most Improved Player of the Year title.
