MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – World number five and leader of the Belarusian national tennis team Victoria Azarenka held a training session on the court of the Small Arena of the Luzhniki Stadium on 14 April, BelTA learnt from spokeswoman for the Belarusian Tennis Federation Yekaterina Lisitsa.
Earlier, Victoria Azarenka confirmed her intentions to play for Belarus in the Federation Cup World Group playoff against Russia. However, in the recent days many Russian media outlets have repeatedly doubted the Belarusian’s participation in the matches in Moscow. The reason behind it was Victoria Azarenka’s absence at the official press conference of the Belarusian national team on 13 April.
The playoff match between Belarus and Russia for the place in the Fed Cup World Group will take place in Moscow on 16-17 April. Apart from Victoria Azarenka, the Belarusian team will include Olga Govortsova (World No.99), Alexandra Sasnovich (100) and Arina Sobolenko (257).
In the previous years the Belarusian and Russian players met three times on court. Belarusians celebrated the victory twice (1995, 1996).
