MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – Arina Sobolenko has been nominated for the WTA Breakthrough of the Month in October 2017, BelTA has learned.

Last month the 19-year-old player made her first WTA final. The Belarusian gave a great accounting of herself against Maria Sharapova, building a 4-1 first set and 5-1 second set lead before eventually falling, 7-5, 7-6(8) in the Tianjin Open. Arina Sobolenko's efforts in Tianjin propelled her into the 78^th position in the WTA.

Among the other October's WTA Breakthrough of the Month are Germany’s Julia Goerges and Carina Witthoeft, and also Russia’s Natalia Vikhlyantseva. The voting is open on the WTA website.

CoCo Vandeweghe of the United States won the January’s WTA Breakthrough of the Month nomination. The American player will make part of the U.S. national team against Belarus in the coming Fed Cup final in Minsk.
