MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) – Aleksandra Sasnovich of Belarus was conferred the Fed Cup Heart Award at the Fed Cup draw ceremony in Minsk. The athlete decided to donate the $10,000 prize to the charitable organization Otklik, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandra Sasnovich said that she is happy to win the prize. According to her, the charity will use the money to help Natalya Zhuk. The woman has worked as a doctor for a long time, but now she herself is battling a serious disease. The only people who can take care of her are her pensioner parents. This is why support is crucial for her, Aleksandra added.
The Belarusian tennis player was honored with the award for excellent performance in the semi-final game against Switzerland (a 3-2 win).
President of the International Tennis Federation David Haggerty noted that every new Fed Cup edition discovers new heroes. Aleksandra’s killer instinct and enormous contribution to the success of her team are the best examples of how a player should represent his or her country.
First presented in 2009, the Fed Cup Heart Award recognizes players who have shown exceptional courage on court and demonstrated outstanding commitment to the team.
