MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – The Zagorie rehabilitation center will house about 200 Chinese students returning from China to Belarus, Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik told reporters as he visited the center on 17 February, BelTA has learned.
Students who come back to Belarus from China will undertake mandatory recuperation and acclimatization programs. “The center can accommodate about 200 Chinese students. It should be noted that arrangements will be made to ensure that people who come back on the same flight will be put in the same group for medical observation. Thus, even if some beds are available in a room, students who come back later will be offered different rooms,” Vladimir Karanik informed.

This is the second facility allocated for Chinese students. It will receive people till 24 February. All the healthcare workers to be stationed in the center have undertaken additional training. “By now the Brigantina sports and recreation center is full. Chinese students have been offered individual curricula. By 24 February some students will be able to leave the facility. Thus, due to this rotation, we will be able to arrange medical observation for all students arriving in Belarus,” the minister said.
These are the students who were not exposed to coronavirus, who came from unaffected regions, and who were under quarantine in China. “First of all, we offer accommodation, individual curricula and medical observation. These are healthy people who do not need any treatment. It is important to underline that these people were under quarantine in China. Therefore, the possibility that they catch the disease is minimal. This can only happen during a flight. All the measures in place will help bring to naught the low risks of importing the virus into the country. This is not a quarantine. Healthcare workers will come to work and go home as usual,” Vladimir Karanik said.
The same measures are in place in all the regions where students from China study. Due to collaboration with the border and customs services and the Transport and Communications Ministry, specialists of the Healthcare Ministry receive real-time updates about people arriving from China. These people are tested for the virus and delivered to recuperation centers.
According to the press service of the Healthcare Ministry, the majority of Chinese students did not leave Belarus for China or any other states during winter holidays in view of the coronavirus outbreak.
No confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in Belarus. Nevertheless, on 30 January Belarus issued a health alert as a precaution. A series of measures have been taken to strengthen the national capacity to detect and tackle the virus. The country’s healthcare organizations are ready to receive people suspected of contracting the virus.
The diagnostic laboratory of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology carries out tests round the clock.
