Belarusian medics now practice most complicated cutting-edge surgeries for transplanting livers, hearts, kidneys, and multiple-organ complexes "kidney-pancreatic gland", "liver-kidney", "heart-kidney". Apart from that, they resort to organ transplantation technologies for treating the liver and heart failures. These surgeries are performed on kids and adults.
Oleg Rummo, head of the national applied research center for organ and tissue transplantation, noted that as far as the development of this branch of healthcare is concerned, Belarus is ranked 10th in the world ahead of the UK, Canada, Germany, and Japan. "Last year we transplanted 502 organs, more than 60 times as much as in 2005," he noted.
