Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Vice President, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Beijing.
The diplomatic relations between Belarus and the United Arab Emirates were established on 20 October 1992. Belarus opened its embassy in the UAE in December 1999. The UAE embassy in Minsk opened in October 2008. The Belarusian head of state has paid a number of visits to the UAE.
In 2018, Belarus-UAE trade totaled $72.3 million, with exports reaching $58 million and imports making up $14.3 million. In 2018, net FDI from the United Arab Emirates totaled $44 million (an increase of 134% from 2017). An investor from the UAE is implementing a $247.6 million project to build a hotel complex in Minsk within the Bogdanovich Street-Yanka Kupala Street-the Svisloch River area.
