St. Basil’s Cathedral

St. Basil’s Cathedral
8 Aug 2018

St. Basil’s Cathedral in Grodnowas built in 1905-1915 in the Russian Revival style to commemorate the soldiers of the Grodno garrison who were killed in the Russian-Japanese war in 1904-1905. The prototype of the cathedral was the church of the Caspian Regiment in New Peterhof. Assisted by military engineer, captain Ivan Savelyev, local engineers gave the cathedral its recognizable features. Today, the cathedral is home to the Kazan Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God and the replica of the cross of the blessed Euphrosyne of Polotsk with relics of Belarusian saints.
