MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Early voting is a procedure that is used not only in Belarus but also in many other countries. It fully meets international standards, including the OSCE recommendations, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina told the ONT channel, BelTA has learned.
Prior to early voting ballot boxes are sealed in the presence of observers. This procedure is conducted every day with members of the election commission putting their signatures on them. Every polling station provides information on the number of issued ballot papers at the end of the day.
“All these additional guarantees prove early voting as reliable. If we are to consider the elections valid with any turnout, then we need to abolish early voting. But whom will these people elect? We can wake up into a different country where, for example, only 20% cast their votes,” Lidia Yermoshina noted.
The elections to the House of Representatives are due to take place on 11 September. Early voting will start on 6 September.
